Large scale re-factoring, remove fine-grained locking in favor of a simple,
single global lock (still in progress).
Identify and fix various hot-spots.

	+ remove endless typedef chains
	+ remove custom allocator & associated complexity
	+ remove Pointer, and 'Address' classes
